Ampliación Plan Libertador is a rural ejido where families live in vulnerable conditions with limited access to basic services. Many children in this area face severe educational gaps and social challenges. Access to public schools is difficult—not just because of the distance, but also due to a lack of infrastructure and transportation.
It’s common to meet children who have technically “graduated” from primary school but cannot read or write. Others have special learning needs that go undiagnosed and unsupported. Our work in this location focuses on providing access to education, academic reinforcement, emotional support, and a safe space for social development.
At Refugio de Amor, children find a welcoming, structured environment where they are seen, heard, and taught with patience. Here, they begin to build not only academic skills, but also confidence and meaningful relationships. We work daily with children who have been overlooked—children who didn’t speak, didn’t play, or had never held a pencil properly—and we see them start to thrive.
Many live with single mothers, grandparents, or extended family members. Most families work in informal labor or local jobs, often without healthcare or social services. Our site offers them stability, nourishment, and love.
It’s more than a school—it’s a refuge of dignity and hope.
